HAITI RELIEF DONATIONS
At this time we are accepting contributions for Haiti Relief and will be sending them to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief).
• United Methodists are working with longtime partners in Haiti to respond after a 7.2-magnitude earthquake and as a major storm approaches.
• Church members helped to rebuild efforts after the 2010 earthquake that claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, including United Methodist workers.
REV. PEGGY FINCH RETIREMENT RECEPTION
SEPTEMBER 19
AFTER 11:00 AM SERVICE
FRONT LAWN at MUMC
We are excited to share with you that a reception to celebrate the retirement of Reverend Peggy Finch has been scheduled. Peggy officially retired in June 2020. However, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Church had to postpone a formal celebration with Peggy until now. Please plan to join us to honor Peggy and her ministry at Memorial on Sunday, September 19 following the 11:00 am service.
CALLING ALL COOKS!
SEPTEMBER 18
8 AM – 12 PM
THOMASVILLE FARMERS MARKET
United Methodist Women will be sponsoring a second bake sale at the Thomasville Farmers Market on Saturday, September 18th, from 8 am to 12 noon. We need the help of all the cooks in the church. Proceeds support UMW mission projects. Any of the following items will be greatly appreciated: pies (all kinds), fruit cobblers, persimmon puddings, cakes, sugar-free desserts, brownies, bar-type cookies, ham, and sausage biscuits, breakfast breads and buns, trail mix, granola. Please bring food items to the church kitchen on Friday, September 17, between 12:30- 2:00 pm. Also, help is needed on the morning of the bake sale between the hours of 7:30 am – 12 noon.
Please contact Doris Link or Elaine Rabon for more information.
RISE AGAINST HUNGER – POSTPONED
After much care and consideration, the Missions Committee has decided to postpone the Rise Against Hunger event scheduled for September 8. This is an event that we look forward to as a church every year. It is an opportunity to support a global mission with a tremendous amount of fun and fellowship thrown in.
That being said, Covid-19 numbers are once again rising and there is not a good way to host this event while allowing for the appropriate social distancing, we feel is required to keep our church family safe. We will keep everyone posted on whether or not we are able to reschedule the event this year or whether we will have the volunteers at RAH pack the 10,000 meals with our donation as we did in 2020.
GIFTS GALORE RETURNS!
We are excited to let you know that Memorial’s 16th Annual Gifts Galore will take place the first Saturday in November…November 6th! We have mailed applications and already are hearing positive responses from a great variety of vendors. Save the date to shop and spread the word around the community. If you or anyone you know is interested in being a vendor, please contact the church (336-472-7718) or Marie Carmichael (336-476-4625). Thanks for helping Gifts Galore continue as a great event for our church!
BIG PINK CHAIR PROJECT
Partner with Blythe Leonard, LLC in the Big Pink Chair Project!
Blythe is raising funds for Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center Foundation to provide mammograms, biopsies, and diagnostic imaging to women in need in Thomasville. She is seeking wooden chairs in relatively good shape to paint and place around town during the month of October. You can take chairs to Blythe Leonard, LLC at 606 Davidson Street. We’re also happy to pick them up! Please reach out to Blythe Leonard (336-687-5366) or Payton Williams (336-687-0015) to get involved!
No chairs? You can make a gift to the mammography fund at supportnovanthealth.org/Thomasville.
