Gift Cards for The Father’s Storehouse
The New Beginnings Sunday School Class is collecting $10 gift cards from fast food restaurants for The Father’s Storehouse. They will be given to those who spend the night in the shelter so they can purchase lunch, especially during these winter months. As a paying customer, they can eat in the dining room and take a break from the weather. Gift cards can be purchased from any fast food restaurant on Randolph St. in Thomasville and given to a member of the New Beginnings Sunday School Class or turned in at the church office. Cash donations for the purchase of gift cards will also be accepted. Please consider donating over the next few weeks.

Does simply thinking about chocolate bring a smile to your face? Try thinking about this—hanging out at a café with friends, while enjoying your favorite hot beverage, nibbling on a brownie or bit of chocolate pie, laughing, talking, and relaxing together—it’s a perfect gathering! Café Chocolate is a relaxing chocolate-themed retreat the women of our church are doing together. It includes worship, Bible study, and time for laughter as well as time for quiet reflection. And while the name of our gathering sounds indulgent, we’ll actually be using chocolate as a metaphor for God’s extravagant grace.
Call Lynda Hepler at 336-472-9711 or email lhepler@mumctville.org.
Sunday, February 11th, we will observe Blanket Sunday.
This is our opportunity to support the work of Church World Service, a faith-based non-profit that brings help to areas battling hunger, poverty, displacement, and disaster. You are invited to participate in their ministry by purchasing a blanket that will be distributed to those in need around the world. Please write your checks to Memorial UMC and note CWS or Blanket Sunday in the memo line.
SPECIAL PROJECTS COMMITTEE
BARGAIN TREASURES
AUGUST 24, 2024
The Special Projects Committee is pleased to announce that we are resuming this year the Bargain Treasures fundraiser, a special event that raises revenues for our church operating budget for 2024. Preparation for this wonderful event begins now with items collected and stored during the coming months leading to the event, preparing a list of volunteers who can help us on the days leading up to the event day (Aug. 18-23) and of course those who can help on the event day of Aug. 24, 2024.
Please help us with this wonderful event; we need you.
We have received offers from many members to help. We will be contacting volunteers in the coming months as to actual assignments that you are willing to fulfill. If you can help, contact Marlon Winters at the email or phone number listed below.
We will begin now with the collection of donated items. We seek items that include clothes, especially gently used children’s clothing, crafts, antiques, pictures & frames, toys, sporting/exercise equipment, household items including lamps, linens, sheets, bedspreads, draperies, rugs, curtains, fabrics, dishes, glassware, cook utensils , baking items; also holiday decorations, tools, furniture, children’s books, electronic items including toasters, microwaves.
We ask that you DO NOT donate televisions, magazines, books (other than children’s books).
We ask that all items donated be of good quality and clean if possible. This will help us greatly in preparing for the event.
We are glad to offer pick-up of items as many of you are going through residence changes and spring cleaning and wish to already offer items for our event. We have storage available to house items as we prepare for the special day. Contact Marlon Winters to arrange a time for pick-up.
