OK, so we have debated and polled people and tried our best to make a good, safe decision about Appalachia Service Project for this year and we have made the decision to GO!!!

We are very excited and look forward to this very important trip this Summer.  June 27 – July 3 are the dates.

INFORMATIONAL MEETINGTHIS SUNDAY

We will have a VERY IMPORTANT information meeting THIS SUNDAY (June 13) for those going on the trip!

BRING FORMS WITH YOU ON SUNDAY…

There are 2 forms that need to be filled out:
If you are asked for an ASP Group #: 9801 (Memorial United Methodist Church)

FUNDRAISING

I understand that we are giving you very little notice to raise any money to go on the trip this year.  The truth is that we were unsure if we were even going to be able to make this trip happen until very recently!  So, in light of this, we will still need to raise some money to go, but we are just asking you to do the best that you can.  There is no minimum to raise, there is no reward trip, but we really need you to ask friends and family to support you on this trip.  Chris will also be asking Church members this Sunday to donate and help with this trip as well!

COVID-RELATED STATEMENT (UPDATED JUNE 13, 2021)

WE ARE COMMITTED TO BEING SAFE…
There are a few changes that we are making at Youth Group in order to continue to be reasonable and responsible toward our COVID-19 response.  Please read the following and feel free to contact me with any questions:

VAN USAGE:  There are a few activities coming up this summer that may need include using vans (ASP, Lake Junaluska Retreat).  Up to this point, we have tried to avoid using church vans due to the close proximity of people that will be riding in them, which would be more conducive to spreading the virus.  As we approach more and more people who are getting vaccinated, the likelihood of spread seems to be going down as well.  I am looking for some feedback from those who might be unsure about the YOUTH GROUP use of vans beginning this summer.  If you have a reservation about sending your student to Youth Group if we were to use church vans for an outing, please contact Rodney: (336) 906-3036.  I would like to hear from you!

VACCINES:  First of all, you need to know that all of the adult counselors are currently FULLY VACCINATED for COVID-19.  This means that when you attend Youth Group here, you know that we take your health seriously and try to maintain a safe environment.  Along with this, if you are a youth who has been vaccinated, you will no longer be required to wear a mask.  We are not checking vaccination cards or policing whether you are being truthful or not, but we do as that you continue to wear a mask if you are not vaccinated.  We simply hope that you will be honest and respectful of your fellow youth group members!

MASKS/FACE SHIELDS:  First See Above Statement entitled “Vaccines”.  If you have NOT been Vaccinated — Wear a face covering!  (That means covering your mouth AND your nose!!!)  Whatever you are wearing at school, wear them at Youth Group.  If you do not have one or forget to bring one, we can provide one for you!  PLEASE don’t make us keep asking you to put one on or “pull it up” its a drag for us and you probably don’t like being told what to do, either!

OUTDOORS:  We will continue to plan activities that will be experienced outdoors!  Fortunately, we are in the summer months and the weather will be warm and HOPEFULLY DRY! (water to drink will be provided)
