WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

We have two options for worship on Sunday mornings at 11 a.m. You may join us online on Facebook Live and WGOS AM 1070 or in person in the sanctuary. Every effort has been made to provide a safe environment for our in-person worship service. It also is essential for us to continue to adhere to our safety practices.

What to Expect at Indoor Worship

  • Access to the Sanctuary is through the Randolph Street doors only.  The designated entrance for those needing the elevator will be the door under the walkway.
  • You’ll be greeted upon entering the church and asked a few questions.
  • Face masks will be required for everyone.
  • Some pews will be blocked to maintain social distancing; an usher will help direct you.
  • Out of respect for others, please refrain from shaking hands or hugging.
  • Offering plates will be available at the entrance and exit of the sanctuary.
  • When services end, attendees will be dismissed by section to avoid hallway congestion.
  • No nursery staff will be present, but the nursery space will be available.
  • Sunday school will not be offered at this time.

CAROLS AND CANDLE LIGHTING

SUNDAY DECEMBER 20
7 P.M., Weather Permitting
ON THE FRONT LAWN

Join us on the front lawn of the church on Sunday evening, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. The atmosphere will be festive as the sidewalk will be lined with luminarias. We will be led in the singing of your favorite carols by a brass ensemble and share in the reading of scriptures. Our service will conclude with the lighting of candles.

The service will be held outdoors, so please dress accordingly. For the safety of all  gathered, please wear a facemask and practice social distancing. You are invited to bring a lawn chair. We anticipate the service will last 30 minutes.

CHRISTMAS EVE COMMUNION

DECEMBER 24
5 – 6 P.M.

Come and receive Holy Communion in the Chapel or Sanctuary from 5 to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Due to COVID 19, we are limiting each time slot to six (6) people per location. If you have a large family (over 6) sign up for back to back slots in the same location. Go online to: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0545A8AF28A02-christmas (on our homepage) to reserve your time slot, or call the church office. If all slots are full when you open the signup site, please call the office to let us know.

NO ALTERNATIVE GIFTS CAMPAIGN, BUT…

To our wonderfully generous MUMC family:

Given the COVID-19 dynamics of this particular season, the Missions Committee is not able to host our Annual Alternative Gifts Campaign. Given the in-person nature of our in-house ordering, printing, and distribution system, we feel it best to suspend the effort during Advent. The needs of our neighbors these agencies serve, however, have NOT diminished. In fact, for many organizations their outreach has expanded.

As you pray and ponder how to best come alongside those who struggle, please consider donating to ministries/agencies/organizations that have been on our lists of previous years. There are no forms or cards, but WE can still make a difference. As you make out and mail your checks to the selected places, please confirm the proper mailing addresses. Our gratitude for you abounds and we look forward to a better 2021!

Some options include:
Cooperative Community MInistry
Davidson Medical Ministries
Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club
Salvation Army Davidson County
Dragonfly House
UMCOR (The church office may can help with Advance Numbers.)
Crossnore School & Children’s Home
Project Divine Interruption (PDI) (Please make the check out to MUMC with “PDI” on memo line.)
Lexington Housing Community Development Corporation
Meals on Wheels – Thomasville
ZOE Ministry
Project AGAPE
Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing Event

Again, thank you for continuing to be our neighbor’s keeper. In doing so we, too, are kept.

ADVENT DEVOTIONAL FROM MEMORIAL UMC

“No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar, but on the lampstand so that those who enter may see the light.”
Luke 11:33

This year, we are offering an Advent Devotional, written by members and staff of Memorial. Each day of Advent, you will receive a daily devotion by email. The entire collection is also available online, and printed copies are available at the church.

The 2020 Advent Devotional arises from hearts longing for connection. Participants in our 2020 “Writers Guild” bring you words of light in the darkness that grows before yielding to the Light of the world.

Click here to access the complete Advent Devotional online, or check our homepage.

ARTS ALIVE OPEN HOUSE, JANUARY 3

CANCELLED: FAT TUESDAY PANCAKE DAY (Feb. 2021)

Once again COVID-19 has forced a decision, and that is to cancel our Fat Tuesday Pancake Day this coming February 16, 2021. It is just not safe enough to have such a large gathering. Supplies must be ordered and arrangements made in order to put on this day long event and it is just not feasible to do so at present. We are disappointed not to be able to do this fundraising mission, but look forward to next year when we will resume this annual event.

CANCELLED: STAR OF BETHLEHEM (Dec. 2020)

As a reminder, due to uncertainty and potential risks associated with COVID-19, the Star of Bethlehem drive-through nativity event, usually held in December, has been canceled for 2020. Thank you for your understanding during these unusual times. Please tell your friends to look forward to 2021, when we plan once again to host this event.
