Mr. Milton Thomas Riley, Jr. 88, a resident of Thomasville, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025 at his home. He was born on April 9, 1937 in Wake County to his parents, the late Annie Jane Holland Riley and Milton Riley, Sr. Milton was a proud graduate of UNC Chapel Hill. He went on to have a long career as an Accountant for Dixon, Odom & Company in Thomasville and retired after 30 years of service as a partner of the firm. After retirement, he owned and managed Riley Properties for many years and was still actively involved until just a few months ago.
Milton was a longtime member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Thomasville where he helped on the financial committee, was a part of the RL Pope Sunday School Class, and several other roles. In 1968, he joined the Thomasville Rotary Club where he served as a past president. He is also a past president of the Board of Directors for Davidson County Community College. Milton and his wife Berta both were named Citizens of the Year in 2003 from the City of Thomasville, Milton and Berta also received the inaugural Philanthropic Award from Thomasville Medical Center Foundation in 2018, and he was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by the Governor of North Carolina in 2018.
Surviving is his wife, Berta Tunstall Riley of the home; three sons, Scott Riley and wife René of Cary, Tom Riley of Thomasville, and Jim Riley and wife Lorree of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Justin Riley, Brian Riley, and Lydia Riley; and two sisters, Jane McCullen and Lucy Maready.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Memorial UMC in Thomasville with Rev. Danny Leonard officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in the church’s Christian Enrichment Center.
