SPECIAL PROJECTS COMMITTEE

BARGAIN TREASURES

AUGUST 24, 2024

The Special Projects Committee is pleased to announce that we are resuming this year the Bargain Treasures fundraiser, a special event that raises revenues for our church operating budget for 2024. Preparation for this wonderful event begins now with items collected and stored during the coming months leading to the event, preparing a list of volunteers who can help us on the days leading up to the event day (Aug. 18-23) and of course those who can help on the event day of Aug. 24, 2024.

Please help us with this wonderful event; we need you.

We have received offers from many members to help. We will be contacting volunteers in the coming months as to actual assignments that you are willing to fulfill. If you can help, contact Marlon Winters at the email or phone number listed below.

We will begin now with the collection of donated items. We seek items that include clothes, especially gently used children’s clothing, crafts, antiques, pictures & frames, toys, sporting/exercise equipment, household items including lamps, linens, sheets, bedspreads, draperies, rugs, curtains, fabrics, dishes, glassware, cook utensils , baking items; also holiday decorations, tools, furniture, children’s books, electronic items including toasters, microwaves.

We ask that you DO NOT donate televisions, magazines, books (other than children’s books).

We ask that all items donated be of good quality and clean if possible. This will help us greatly in preparing for the event.

We are glad to offer pick-up of items as many of you are going through residence changes and spring cleaning and wish to already offer items for our event. We have storage available to house items as we prepare for the special day. Contact Marlon Winters to arrange a time for pick-up.

Radical Hospitality at Memorial UMC

We need YOUR help with RADICAL HOSPITALITY; please volunteer in this effort.
Memorial UMC can offer radical hospitality by members volunteering one to two Sundays a year to be greeters for the 8:50 Awaken Service, and the 11 a.m. service, to provide a smile, verbal greeting, and assistance as needed. Radical hospitality would be as follows outside the church: If it is raining, we offer to meet visitors and members in the parking lots with an umbrella and walk them to the nearest door. If a parent(s) arrives with small children, walk them to the nursery if they want to use the nursery. If a person is in a wheelchair, walk them to the wheelchair access for either service and assist as needed to enter the building. Front entrance greeters would be outside church entrances to greet everyone and open the door. Parking lot greeters are stationed on the sidewalk across from our main parking area to give directions and assistance. Greeters inside assist the ushers giving out bulletins (Awaken service in CEC lobby and 11 a.m. service in sanctuary near the altar).
The Radical Hospitality committee has been combined into one committee representing the hospitality and greeter committees at Memorial. Rhonda Winters is the chairperson. If you and/or your family would be willing to be a Radical Hospitality greeter one or two Sunday’s a year for one or both services, please email Rhonda at rswinters@rtmc.net or text or call 336-688-2559. We need two volunteers each Sunday for outside and one to two greeters inside the church. We know that some of you have already been a radical hospitality greeter this year and we are very appreciative. Rhonda will be assigning the dates, with your assistance, for being a radical hospitality greeter for the period from July 1 to Dec. 31, 2024. We will give written instructions and reminders for when it is your date to be a greeter.
