Harriette H. Tew, 92 a resident of 606 Willowmoore Ave., Thomasville, was born on June 30, 1928 in Aurora, North Carolina and died Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Hinkle Hospice Home in Lexington. Her parents Helen and Nat Hooker, her husband, Joe Ray Tew and her son, Alan Jarrett Tew, and her brother John Hooker; all preceded her in death.

She is survived by 4 sons, William Ray Tew of Thomasville, Charles Hooker Tew and Lisa of Pinehurst, David Thompson Tew and Deb of Leland and Jeffrey Joseph Tew and Cindy of Thomasville. Also, grandchildren, Nathaniel, Arthur and Anna, Lillian, Willis, Jacob, Maggie, Grace, Joseph, Cecil and great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Penelope, Harriette, Lydia, Ambrose, Theadore, Lawrence, Jarrett, Riley. She is also survived by her brother, Winston and wife Judi, sister-in-law, Lillian and dear nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.   

Harriette graduated from Aurora High School, attended Greensboro College and graduated from East Carolina College. She married Joe on June 28, 1949. She and Joe owned and operated Hutspot House, a craft and needlework shop and later a wholesale needlework company where she designed and published cross-stitch books and leaflets.

She taught decorative painting to many people in the Thomasville area and was also an avid quilter.

She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and the Easy Piecers quilting group.

A funeral service will be held Monday, March 15, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Memorial United Methodist Church in the Jarrett Hall in Thomasville with Rev. Peggy Finch and Rev. Danny Leonard officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM- 2:00PM at the church.
