This is your opportunity to learn more about our wide range of ministries and our church governance, meet some of our key church leadership, and get answers to your questions about United Methodism and our basic beliefs.
Pick up a brochure in either the Narthex or in the Jarrett Hall foyer for more detailed information.  If you have particular questions, talk to one of the ministers or call Tim Lyons at 476-1117.

JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM

December 9, 10 & 11
6 – 9 PM

This wonderful journey we are about to embark on again this year is fast approaching! New and revamped costumes have been in the making and soon you will begin to see sets taking shape. The traffic pattern has been altered slightly to improve the flow of cars.

Help spread the word by inviting family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.

Costume Sewing is still under way. If you made a costume(s) last year, please help us make just a few more this year.  Pre-cut tunics and coats are once again in bags in Jarrett Hall to sew at home. Or you may join us Tuesday mornings at 9:00 in the Girl Scout room where we sew as a group. Contact Katie Conant at 336-225-1947 if you to wish join us. Thank you to those who have done a WONDERFUL job so far.

Volunteer to be a part of this special event:
Recruiting Bethlehem Townspeople!
Recently, emails were sent to those who participated last year as Bethlehem townspeople to confirm your participation again this year.  If you have not yet responded, please do so.  If you did not receive an email, have questions, or would like to be included this year, please email Tim Lyons or call 336-476-1117.

One thing each of us can do is PRAY that this will truly be a blessing for our community as we celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.

BAGS-R-US BAG SALE

As you do your summer (or fall) closet cleaning be sure to bring your gently used pocketbooks to the church for our Bags R Us sale this fall at Gifts Galore.

We have had great success in the past because of members like you who helped us raise money for special projects in the church (all new altar cloths for sanctuary and chapel and new carpet and seat pads in the chapel).  We have a “special something” we are working to raise funds for now that will enhance our church.  We need your help to achieve this goal!

Please fill the tub in the hallway near the reception office as many times as you wish and we will be well on our way to another successful fund raiser this year.

The Bag Ladies thank you!

UMW WORLD THANK OFFERING

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7
6 PM
CHRISTIAN ENRICHMENT CENTER

The United Methodist Women will be holding their World Thank Offering and Pledge gathering Monday, November 7th at 6pm, in the CEC. The world thank offering is an opportunity for individuals to respond to God’s abundance and grace with spontaneous gifts of gratitude. This offering allows people to share a portion of God’s blessings with others through the global mission programs of the national UMW. Coin boxes for personal collection of your thank offerings are available in the UMW Library. A meal will be served, cost $8, and childcare will be available. Our hands-on project is children’s (ages 5 – 8) underwear. Call Lynda Stone by Monday October 31 at 882-6046 for reservations.

HURRICANE MATTHEW RELIEF

Many people have asked how can we help our neighbors in the eastern part of the state in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.  Here are a few ideas:

PRAYER
There will be many months to years worth of cleanup and recovery for the people of the eastern parts of NC the first step for recovery is supporting these folks through our prayers.

FINANCIAL GIFTS
The best way to serve the survivors of Hurricane Matthew is through a financial gift. Make your check out to UMCOR, for U.S. Disaster Response, write U.S Disaster Response, Advance #901670 on the memo line. For International Disaster Response, write International Disaster Response Advance #982450 on the memo line and drop your check in your church’s offering plate on Sunday.

FLOOD BUCKETS
Down the road there may be a need for “FLOOD BUCKETS” which are 5 gallon buckets that are packed with a specific list of items that are necessary for people trying to clean up after a major flooding incident such as this one.  The Packing List for these and other recovery kits can be found http://www.umcor.org/UMCOR/Relief-Supplies/Relief-Supply-Kits” target=”_blank” style=”color: #336699;font-weight: normal;text-decoration: underline;”>HERE and delivered to the http://mission.wnccumc.org/mission-response-center/” target=”_blank” style=”color: #336699;font-weight: normal;text-decoration: underline;”>MISSION RESPONSE CENTER in Terrell. NC.  HOWEVER, please do not assemble these kits for MRC UNTIL requested to do so, there is a limited area for storage and if too many come in at once, there may be no room for them!

SOLE4SOULS

Glenn Myers, Pastor of First UMC, Mocksville, shares:
Soles4Souls has put out a request for gently used shoes for shipment to Haiti following Hurricane Matthew.  In addition to UMCOR and other responses, those who are collection points or would like to collect shoes for Haiti may bring them to First UMC, Mocksville MondayFriday from 9am-5pm.  We hope to get a shipment together by the end of October.
Questions may be directed to tommy@firstumcmocksville.org or by calling 336-751-2503.  If bringing a large number of shoes, call ahead.”
