Frank L. Rankin, Jr., died April 4th on his 91st birthday. He was born April 4, 1930, in Mount Holly, N.C., the only child of Frank L. and Vallie Mae Lawrence Rankin. He lived his entire childhood in Mount Holly where his father owned and operated Rankin Department Store.

Frank graduated with a B.A. degree from Duke University in 1952 and enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After serving two years, he entered the Business School at UNC-Chapel Hill, receiving his MBA in 1956. That same year he was employed by Wachovia Bank in Winston-Salem. He served in various capacities for over 37 years and retired in 1993 as Senior Vice President and Thomasville City Executive.

As a resident of Thomasville since 1962, Rankin is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Martha Anne David Rankin of Asheville, and two daughters: MaryAnne R. Byerly and Susan R. McCrary (husband, Dicky), grandchildren: Tatum Anne Edwards, Trotter David Byerly, Kelley Paige McCrary, Cole Rankin McCrary, and step-grandson Troy McCrary (wife Emily McCrary) and step-great grandchild Ella Taylor McCrary.

Rankin has been an active member of Memorial United Methodist Church since 1962. He has served as a teacher in the R.L. Pope Bible Class, been a member of the chancel choir, has been chairmen of the Administrative Board, as well as served on the finance and staff parish committees. He loved his church and church family.

In addition, he was active in numerous civic organizations and boards. These include: Community General Hospital Board of Trustees, Thomasville Area Chamber of Commerce and United Way, Tom A. Finch YMCA, Thomasville Rotary Club, Thomasville Community Concert Association, Thomasville Furniture Industries, Davidson County Community College, Davidson County Industrial Facilities and Pollution Control Authority, American Red Cross, Thomasville Merchants Association, Habitat for Humanity, Family Services of Davidson County, and Triad United Methodist Homes Board of Visitors.

Finally, Frank was active in the Chair City Players, participating in four plays, including two musicals.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Memorial United Methodist Church in Thomasville with the Rev. Danny Leonard officiating. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to Memorial United Methodist Church, 101 Randolph Street in Thomasville. Mr. Rankin will lie-in-state on Tuesday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the JC Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville. Burial will follow the service at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville.
