MISSION OPPORTUNITY
LENTEN FOOD DRIVE 2021

EVERY FRIDAY DURING LENT
10- 11 AM
MEMORIAL UMC BREEZEWAY

This year’s Lenten Food Drive Challenge is going to look a little different!  We will still support COOPERATVE COMMUNITY MINISTRIES with “non-perishable food and toiletry items”!  However, instead of following the journey of our GIANT soup can from CCM to Memorial, this year we will have WEEKLY DROP-OFF EVENTS each Friday during Lent!  Simply make your purchase and drop off between 10 – 11 AM each Friday at the Church “Breezeway”.  Members of the Mission Committee will even be there to unload your donation!  If you are unable to get by the church during this time, you can also choose to make your donation to the Mission Racks by the Breezeway door and the Committee will make sure that your donation will make it to CCM!

These WEEKLY DROP-OFF EVENTS will focus on a particular food item, but PLEASE NOTE, any non-perishable food and toiletry items food items will gladly accepted!

HERE IS THE WEEKLY THEME SCHEDULE:

  • 2/19 – Canned Potatoes
  • 2/26 – Rice
  • 3/5 – Large Cans of Soup

LENTEN BIBLE STUDY 2021:
“The Walk” by Adam Hamilton

BEGINS FEBRUARY 24
6:30 – 7:30 PM

VIA “ZOOM MEETINGS
FACILITATED BY TIM LYONS

As the season of Lent approaches, we are excited to announce a six-week study using The Walk by Adam Hamilton.  Lent has always been a time of spiritual preparation, and Hamilton’s study leads us in that direction.  In The Walk, he focuses on five essential spiritual practices that are rooted in Jesus’ own walk with God and taught throughout the New Testament.  Each of these practices is intended as part of our daily walk with Christ while also being an essential part of growing together in the church.  In each chapter, Hamilton explores one of these practices, its New Testament foundation, and what it looks like to pursue this practice daily in our personal life and together in the life of the church.  Deepen your walk with Christ as we explore the five essential practices of worship, study, serving, giving, and bearing witness to our faith.

The sessions will be held virtually via Zoom from 6:30 to 7:30 PM each week beginning February 24 and will be facilitated by Tim Lyons.  Tim will be glad to answer any questions you may have regarding the study and will work with you if you’re not familiar with Zoom.  Please register with Tim if you want to participate by email to tlyons00@gmail.com.

PLEASE NOTE: 20 STUDY BOOKS have been ordered and can be picked up through the Church Office (336) 472-7718 OR by contacting Tim Lyons.

SPREAD THE WORD, INVITE A FRIEND!!!

LENTEN SPIRITUAL DISCIPLESHIP KITS

Be on the lookout for a special package coming to you from Memorial UMC!  We are sending out Spiritual Enrichment Kits for this Lenten season!  This packet includes items that will aid you in making Lent a time of spiritual growth. We encourage you to include the entire family as you participate in the various activities included. Lent is a great time to practice the Spiritual Disciplines.

INSIDE this Kit you will find a calendar of activities to participate in, a special prayer list to help focus your prayer life during this season and a small burlap bag that you are encouraged to set aside a silver coin each day so that by the end you will have amassed 30 pieces of silver.  If you bring those pieces of silver to the church, we will deliver them to Cooperative Community Ministries to insure that they can continue their much needed outreach to our community!

We hope that you will join your church family in participating in this meaningful time of discipline and sacrifice!

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
VALENTINE’S BULLETIN INSERT (UPDATED!)

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Memorial’s UMW would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who participated in this year’s Valentine’s Bulletin Insert Scholarship Fundraiser Program!

ABOUT THE FUND…

The United Methodist Women’s Scholarship Fund was established in the early 1980s by an anonymous donor wishing to honor deserving seniors who are members of Memorial Church or active in its Youth Fellowship. Scholarships have been awarded since 1982. Additional gifts have been received over the years, and the annual Valentine Scholarship drive has further increased the fund. Your donation to this annual project is a way to remember someone special at Valentine’s Day and also assist young people as they enter college. Your support of this and all UMW projects is greatly appreciated.

THANK YOU…

We celebrate all of the much-loved individuals who were honored or remembered in this year’s bulletin!  With great gratitude, we also appreciate the generous folks who turned in names and were willing to help support this year’s Scholarship Program!  We all know that this year’s Class of 2021 are appreciative as well.  Finally, a special thanks goes to Lynda Hepler for putting her special touch on creating the bulletin, making the final product such a great-looking insert and Peggy May for all of the support that was needed in taking the money and recording the names.  It was truly a group effort!

If you would like to download a copy of your own, it can be found HERE:
