PAINTING FUNDRAISER, AUGUST 10th!

United Methodist Women is sponsoring a fundraiser in support of the Hattie Lee Burgess Home in Davidson County. The Hattie Lee Burgess Home is a “safe, temporary home, accessible 24 hours per day to individuals and families who are actively fleeing domestic and/or sexual violence.”  They provide support to victims and their families throughout the legal, medical, and healing process. Come join us for painting, fellowship, and fun!  Saturday, August 10th, 10am  – 12pm, in the RL Pope Room.  Amanda Thompson will lead us through a guided painting project that even “non-artists” will be able to ccomplish.  Refreshments will be served.  Tickets are $20 per person OR for the “Bring-A-Friend” price of 2 tickets for $30. Everyone in the church is invited to join us!   Even men or youth can join us!  This is not just a women’s event.  RSVP to Lynda Stone at 336-882-6046 or lyndamstone@gmail.com. BARGAIN TREASURES – REMINDER TO COLLECT YOUR ITEMS!

As you know, we have rebranded our Trash & Treasure sale as “Bargain Treasures” for 2019. The church is depending on this large annual fundraiser on Aug. 24—so we are depending on YOU to be saving and donating your items. A reminder of our giving guidelines is below…

Drop-off Week is Aug. -19-22, Mon.-Thurs., 9 AM– 4PM. If you need to drop off earlier, need to schedule a pickup for a large item, or if you have questions, please contact Berta Riley at 336-475-2691.

Donate these items, clean and in good working order:
• kitchen items such as silverware, cookware, kitchen utensils, and small appliances that are clean and in working order
• large appliances that are clean and in working order
• furniture
• linens
• exercise equipment, good bicycles • toys, games, sports equipment

UMW JEWELRY SALE @ BARGAIN TREASURES

The UMW will hold its annual jewelry sale on Saturday, August 24, 2019, during “Bargain Treasures.” We appreciate any contributions of costume, vintage, or broken jewelry for the sale. Collection boxes are located in the reception office. Some recipients in our community that benefit from the proceeds of the sale include Davidson Medical Ministries, Meals on Wheels, and Thomasville Primary School Book Fair. CHURCH-WIDE BAKE SALE #2 

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2019
8 AM – 12 NOON
THOMASVILLE FARMERS MARKET, CORNER OF COMMERCE AND GUILFORD STREETS

Our second Church-Wide Bake Sale, sponsored by United Methodist Women, is scheduled for Saturday, September 14, 2019, 8 AM – 12 Noon, at Thomasville Farmers Market, We need the help of all cooks  to make this event a success. Proceeds will be used to support the United Methodist Women’s Scholarship Program. Some of the items that sell well are: all types of breads, seasonal fruit pies, cookies, brownies and other bar-type cookies, ham and sausage biscuits, cakes of all kinds, candy, fried fruit pies, persimmon pudding. Please bring items to the church on Friday, September 13, 2019,  between the hours of 10:00 AM– 12 Noon. Items can also be dropped off at Sara Faulkner’s house Friday afternoon or at the Farmers Market on Saturday morning. Help at the market is needed from 7:30 – 9:45 AM and 9:45 AM – 12 Noon. IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR

It’s almost here. Our Bible study for this fall will be a six-week study entitled Revolutionary Kingdom written by Mike Slaughter. Mike is our Finch Preaching Mission 2019 preacher. The book’s release date is August 20, 2019, so it is hot off the presses. I have pre-ordered a small number of books from Amazon (less expensive than Cokesbury) and I would encourage you to pre-order your book as well. We want to start on Chapter 1 in the first class.

This is the first book that I’ve read written by Mike so he will be new to all of us. Please come and join us. I am looking forward to getting started.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

This volunteer position is to simply come and assist the leader and engage kids with the lesson through conversation. Please contact Lynda Hepler to volunteer. We are required to have two adults with children to comply with Safe Sanctuaries.

SEWING VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED

Please remember that our sewing ministry still needs help making DRESS A GIRL dresses and boys shorts. This ministry is an ongoing project and volunteers are always needed to sew dresses and shorts at home. Pre-cut “kits” are located in Jarrett Hall. Thank you for your help with this special missions project.

“STAR OF BETHLEHEM” IS NEW NAME FOR LIVING NATIVITY

Our living nativity, formerly known as Journey to Bethlehem/What Child Is This, has a new name beginning in 2019. Please start practicing saying “Star of Bethlehem” when you want to say “Journey.”  Also new in 2019, our event will run two days rather than three. Mark your calendars for Saturday December 14^th, 6-9 PM, and Sunday December 15^th, 5-8 PM. Note the earlier time on Sunday. Stay tuned for more details and ways to get involved.
