RISE AGAINST HUNGER* MEAL PACKING EVENT

This Wednesday, April 18th at 6:10 p.m. (Immediately following Fellowship Supper)

All hands on deck! Our annual Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing Event is this coming Wednesday night. The Missions Committee and R.L. Pope Class co-sponsor this intergenerational outreach project, and we truly need ALL available hands to make this fun evening go as smoothly as it has in the past.

Needed:

  • Several able bodies to join the Mission Committee at 4:45 p.m. to meet the delivery truck; unload and move boxes to Jarrett Hall; set up tables in Jarrett; and assemble boxes, organize ingredients, set up scales and heat sealers, etc.
  • ALL hands (it’s intergenerational!) at 6:10 p.m. (right after Fellowship Supper) for the meal packing itself.

Please contact Tracy Brinkley at tbbrinkley@gmail.com to volunteer for the 4:45 shift or to ask questions. Thank you in advance for your help!

PILOT POINT
SUMMER LITERACY CAMP
VOLUNTEER FAIR
SUNDAY APRIL 15

Summer Literacy Camp Volunteers Needed. Fairview UMC will host the six-week Pilot Point Summer Literacy Camp for 36 rising first- through fourth-graders this summer. Volunteers are needed and an information fair is being held Sunday April 15.
Please consider attending or finding out more. There are many ways to contribute to this initiative.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Fundraising / donations
  • Crafts & Recreation
  • Food and snacks
  • Reading buddies
  • Support staff
  • Transportation

Pilot Point will give 36 students the unique opportunity to participate in an exciting faith-based summer reading camp. Seven excellent local teachers will instruct 3 classes in literacy. The camp will be held at Fairview UMC in Thomasville for six consecutive weeks from June 18 to July 27, 8:30 to 4:30pm.

Pilot Point is open to students who have completed kindergarten through third grade in cooperation with schools in Davidson County.

Pray without ceasing and then visit our volunteer fair to see how you can make a difference!

Your schedule already overloaded…
Not sure what special skills you have to offer…

~Can’t imagine how this program will ever work,
But can you pray for those who are focused on seeing it succeed?
~Can’t believe that some kids need this type of program,
But can you imagine living in a home where your parents can’t read?
~Can’t donate money or help with fundraising,
But can you donate your time?
~Can’t commit to being a reading partner,
But can you offer a friendly, smiling face & encouragement?
~Can’t commit to cooking & serving meals,
But can you donate food to be prepared by the hands of others?
~Can’t be off during the day,
But can you help any with our Monday family nights?
~Can’t do crafts or help with recreation,
But can you help supervise a nature walk?

“Everybody can be great… because anybody can serve.
You don’t have to have a college degree to serve.
You don’t have to make your subject & verb agree to serve.
You only need a heart full of grace.  A soul generated by love.”
~Martin Luther King Jr.

Pilot Point Summer Literacy Camp is made possible through a grant from The Duke Endowment, the Yadkin Valley Congregational Vitality Team, and gifts from faithful United Methodists.

A special thanks to Tommy Poole for his craftsmanship and dedication in making our name badge board for the early worship service.
In an effort to offer a welcome and create ease with one another in conversation, we will be encouraging our regular attendees at the 8:50 a.m. service to wear name badges. If you are willing, please sign your name on the sheet in the back of the worship area near the snacks. The badges will be permanent and kept each week on the name badge board in the entryway of our worship space.

In gratitude for Kerry’s actions, Avis and members of the community are hosting this fundraiser to help him with the many medical, dental, and vehicle repair bills resulting from the event. Please contact Dave Williams or Beth Hibbitts if you have questions or want to help.

Thomasville Primary requests new or gently used pants, shorts, under-wear, jackets, and shoes for pre-K through 3rd graders (Project of Natalie Ringham, HPU student).

CLOTHING DRIVE – THOMASVILLE MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOLS

Last Call! Donation bins are here Sunday April 15th but will be collected soon.

Thomasville Middle and High need Standard Mode of Dress (or “SMOD”) items (polo shirts in red, grey, black, white; black or tan pants; belts; TMS or THS Shirts or Hoodies) and toiletries. Project led by Logan Hill toward her Girl Scout Gold Award.

Logan Hill is a Girl Scout at Memorial United Methodist Church in Thomasville. She is currently working on her Gold Award which is the Girl Scout equivalent to the Boy Scout Eagle Award.

Logan is in the process of reorganizing and restocking the clothing closets at both Thomasville Middle and High Schools. The Middle School is in need of more clothing for its Standard Mode of Dress (or “SMOD”) closet. Both schools need basic toiletries.

Logan will place a bin in the CEC lobby in which she will be collecting new or gently used SMOD items – polo shirts (red, grey, black or white), black or tan pants, belts, Thomasville Middle School or High School Shirts or Hoodies, and toiletries.

Logan is happy to come speak to small groups about her project.
Her number is 336-905-1226.
Email: Leah7500@yahoo.com

She is excited about her project and grateful for all donations. Thank you!

Note: We currently are sponsoring two clothing drives. Look for clothes donation bins around the church campus over the coming weeks. Please note the specific needs and place items in the correct bins. Thank you for your support!
