SUNDAY, MARCH 28
11 AM WORSHIP SERVICE
CHURCH SANCTUARY

MUMC Chancel Choir and Orchestra
To present “Simple Gifts”
A spring Cantata on Palm Sunday

The Memorial United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and Orchestra will present its annual Spring Cantata on Palm Sunday, March 28 during the 11:00 AM worship service in the church sanctuary. The title “Simple Gifts” is from one of the anthems “Simple Gifts” (a Shaker tune) made famous by Aaron Copland in the twentieth century. Simple gifts highlighted in the service are: Life, Light and Peace.

The Cantata will begin with a new Mack Wilberg (Mormon Tabernacle Choir) arrangement of the hymn “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty” where the congregation will be asked to sing with the choir. The beautiful “Kyrie” (from the Prayers – “Memorial”) by Rene’ Clausen is the Offertory for the morning. The choir will sing the “Doxology” in a “Hymn of Praise”, a new composition by Mr. Wilberg, on loan specifically to the MUMC Chancel Choir, and currently unpublished. “Simple Gifts” opens the “gift” section of music. “O Light of Life”, “Jesu the Very Thought is Sweet”, and “Let Peace Then Still the Strife”, all new Wilberg compositions round out the balance of the musical presentation. A new composition “Only Thou Art Holy”, an arrangement of “Holy, Holy, Holy” will include the congregation singing with the choir as Benediction Response.

The Chancel Choir and Orchestra are conducted by Mr. Bill Cates, Director of Music and accompanied by Mr. Brian Vannoy, Organist. For further information, please contact the church office (336) 472-7718 or email Bill Cates

All are welcome! Come early and bring a friend!
