Local Family Angel Tree (Jane Williams)
Each Christmas our church “adopts” a total of 65 - 75 children from Fairgrove Family Services, Cooperative Ministry and the Thomasville Primary School and filled requests that the parents had made for the children. I don't know how many years our church has done this, but we have done it a lot. Those selecting the names are requested to spend between $75 and $100 per child. This has been a very successful endeavor for the Mission Committee. For more information regarding how to get involved with the Local Family Angel Tree Ministry please contact Jane Williams (jabw@triad.rr.com)
“Chicks with Sticks” Prayer Shawl Ministry (Marie Carmichael)
This ministry offers two opportunities each week for those who are interested in knitting or crocheting prayer shawls, lap robes, or baby blankets. Members enjoy fellowship on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-6:30 pm upstairs in the CEC and/or Thursday mornings from 10:30-11:30 am in the parlor on the second floor of the sanctuary building.
Both experienced and novice crafters may become "Chicks". We are a care ministry serving not only individuals, but also those in need at Brenner Children's Hospital, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and Victory Junction Gang. We are currently beginning a new outreach--teaching women at the local prison unit to knit.
"Chicks with Sticks" offers items which are made, blessed, and given freely to anyone in need as a reminder of God's presence during times of trial, transition, or joy. If you are interested in learning more or in becoming a member of Memorial's Prayer Shawl Ministry, you may contact Marie Carmichael at thsgal@aol.com or call the church office.
