INDOOR AND ONLINE MORNING WORSHIP CONTINUES

SUNDAY OCTOBER 18
11:00 AM
MUMC SANCTUARY AND ONLINE

We are excited to offer an opportunity to gather for in person worship Sunday mornings at 11 a.m.! Every effort has been made to provide a safe environment for our time together. It also will be essential for us to adhere to some safety practices. We ask for your patience as we move through uncharted territory.

We realize that some of you are not yet comfortable with gathering indoors, and we honor that choice. We will continue to offer the service on Facebook Live and WGOS. Some may choose to join us for Worship on the Lawn each Sunday evening at 6 p.m.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT INDOOR WORSHIP:

  • Access to the Sanctuary is through the Randolph Street doors only.  The designated entrance for those needing the elevator will be the door under the walkway.
  • You’ll be greeted upon entering the church and asked a few questions.
  • Face masks will be required for everyone.
  • Some pews will be blocked to maintain social distancing; an usher will help direct you.
  • Out of respect for others, please refrain from shaking hands or hugging.
  • Offering plates will be available at the entrance and exit of the sanctuary.
  • When services end, attendees will be dismissed by section to avoid hallway congestion.
  • No nursery staff will be present, but the nursery space will be available.
  • Sunday school will not be offered at this time.

WORSHIP ON THE LAWN

CHURCH LAWN
SUNDAYS AT 6:00 PM

Bring your lawn chair and come join others for a time of worship on the church lawn. We sing familiar hymns and share prayers, scripture readings, and a homily. We hope you will dress casually and find this time to be both inspirational and relaxing. This service allows us to gather safely, yet still come together for worship. We plan to continue the service each Sunday evening as weather allows.

R.L. POPE CLASS ONLINE LESSONS

SUNDAYS AT 10:00 A.M. on FACEBOOK and WGOS

ANNUAL CHARGE CONFERENCE

The Annual Charge Conference will be held October 27th at 6:30 p.m.

FROM BRIAN AND ELIZABETH RUSSELL

Dear MUMC Family,

Thank you so much for your wonderful gifts to us as we leave North Carolina and this ministry to pursue pastoral ministry in Ohio with the UCC. The plaque is beautiful in its carving, its message, and its spirit — it will have a special place in Brian’s new office. Thank you also for the love offering — we are overwhelmed by your generosity! It is hard to say goodbye to contemporary music and our friends at Memorial, but we hope we have served you and the Thomasville community well over the last six years. We trust that the fruits of our labors will continue to be born out through new contemporary leadership and a fresh desire to share the good news, as it says in Psalm 69:30:

“I will praise the name of God in a song,
I will magnify him with thanksgiving.”

Peace and love to you all,
Brian and Elizabeth Russell

“LIVING THE LIFE YOU ALWAYS WANTED” – 2021 STEWARDSHIP THEME

Sunday October 25 will be Commitment Sunday for 2021. Those who attend worshIp are encouraged to bring their pledge cards on that day. Others may choose to bring their pledge cards to the church office or send them in the mail.

STAR OF BETHLEHEM CANCELED FOR 2020

Regretfully a decision to cancel Star of Bethlehem in December 2020 has been made. This was done due to not knowing the status of large gatherings at that time and decisions concerning the animals and other needs had to be made well in advance of December. It takes about 250 people each night to put on this production. For their safety, the inability to distance, and the uncertainty of the situation this December, it has been determined that Star of Bethlehem should be cancelled. Please note that it will be held in 2021, the animals have already been booked, and plans are moving forward when large gatherings will once again be the norm. Please share this with family, friends, coworkers, and
neighbors and remind them to look for it again in December 2021. Thank you for your understanding and support. Pray that this virus will soon be controlled and life returns to normal.

DISMANTLING RACISM: VOTER SUPPRESSION

As we prepare for the upcoming United States presidential election, we must expand the conversation around voter suppression. Hard questions arise around this topic: When ballots are cast, who is left out and who is locked out? What are the intersections between racism and voter suppression? In this conversation, Erin Hawkins, Executive Director of Connectional Ministries for the California-Pacific Conference of The United Methodist Church, interviews the Rev. Emanuel Cleaver, II, a United Methodist pastor now serving his seventh term representing Missouri’s Fifth Congressional District. They discuss the historic significance of the presence of a Woman of Color on the presidential ballot, the impact of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage (and who still faced barriers to voting), and action steps to eradicate voter suppression. The video can be found at UMC.org/endracism.
