DISASTER RELIEF

Many of you have been asking how can we help the people affected by the recent Hurricanes?  I am proud to tell you that the United Methodist Church is one of the first groups to respond to emergencies like this.  UMCOR (United Methodist Committee On Relief) were prepared with Early Response Teams, disaster coordinators, and many volunteers as soon as Harvey came through Texas and now they will be entering Florida as well in the aftermath of Irma!

Although UMCOR has suggested to hold off on sending teams and individuals to join the work already in progress (there will definitely be opportunities for this in the future), there are still a number of ways YOU CAN HELP with the clean up efforts RIGHT NOW:

  1. PRAY for the volunteers and people who have been impacted by the disasters.  The needs are vast and the work is plentiful, but there are still many dangerous situations that need to be taken care of by trained people who need guidance and support in the way of prayer.
  2. DONATE MONEY.  Simply write a check to: “Memorial UMC” (drop off or mail to: 101 Randolph Street, Thomasville, NC 27360) Please note in the memo line: “Advance #901670” for Hurricane Harvey (Texas) & Hurricane Irma (Florida) Relief efforts.
  3. MAKE “FLOOD BUCKETS”:  We have a very special opportunity to make a BIG impact here!  FREE 5 GALLON PLASTIC BUCKETS have been donated to our church (we have reserved 75 of them, but we can get more if needed)!!!  The buckets can be found in the CHRISTIAN ENRICHMENT CENTER near the “CCM SHELVES”.  Pick up a bucket (or more) and fill it with the supplies listed on the official PACKING LIST HERE.  For INSTRUCTIONS on how to assemble your bucket(s) CHECK OUT THE VIDEO.  RETURN the bucket(s) to MEMORIAL UMC by TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19 and we have arranged for delivery to the WNCC DISASTER RELIEF WAREHOUSE!
